Autism Voice::Michael Katz

July 27, 2010

I have been going through old photographs lately, trying to decide what of my work describes who I am now.  Yesterday, I found an audio slideshow I had done for abcnews.com that highlighted the life of Michael Katz.  Katz is an adult with autism.  I spent the day with him in Allentown, PA.  Please follow the link to see the story.

This assignment was one of the first assignments that had personal value.  I grew up with a sister with Down Syndrome and both parents work in the special needs community.  I’ve always felt that someday my photography would find its way into the same field and this assignment opened the door.  Now that I am back in Philadelphia I am looking for a way to use my camera within that community, be that as a teacher or through a photo story.
